Hells Angels MC Hamar Chronicle

A motorcycleclub was founded on 26th of desember 1985. We were 2 passionate Harley enthusiasts, who emptied a glass of beer over each others heads, as a baptism, at a restaurant in Hamar, and made a solemn declaration that Screwdrivers MC Hamar was a reality. Screwdrivers MC Hamar was, opposite to other local clubs, going to be a club, only for people with English, and American bikes. The owner of the restaurant, who had to clean after our beer-baptism, didn`t exactly share our glowing passion, but still, he got used to it after a while, because the event took place several times over the next year. We were, at this time, 6 members.

As you all know, a motorcycleclub must have a clubhouse, and our first was an appartement in a terracehouse in Ottestad, not far from Hamar. Even though the neighbours was relatively patient, the lifestyle of men, in a young harleyclub, didn`t quite unite with a silent neighbourhood, and quiet familylife. We did in fact arrange a MC-rally inside the appartement. We stayed in that appartement a couple of years, even though our neighbours wanted us out, and we wanted to move. The pleasure was all ours when a buildingcontractor wanted us to move into a part of his building, in an industrial estate, at Trehoerningen, a few miles north of Hamar. At Trehoerningen, we did a lot of voluntary work, and in return we got a whole year free of rent. The clubhouse was at 1st floor, and had an additional floor upstairs. In the partyroom, there was a big, solid bar, and up on the additional floor, there was madrasses for people to spend the night. Finally we were able to live our lifestyle! In the bar, and the partyroom, there was full speed every weekend, and I wouldn`t even dare to think about what happened upstairs, on the additional floor. Sunday mornings we woke up with a headache, and couldn`t understand why the cash register was as empty as the bar was, and what we should do with the broken furniture. The solution for the empty bar problem, was a whip-round to buy more liquor, and everybody made a promise to be better next weekend. Outside the clubhouse we dug a big hole, wich were used to burn broken furniture every Sunday afternoon. During the week, we got or bought some secondhand furniture, filled up the bar with drinks, and we were good to go again.

But after 2-3 years, we felt that we were in need of a bigger, and better place, because our clubhouse was only used for partying, and during winter we had our garage, fixing our bikes, a whole different place. We had also started travelling around, visiting other clubs, and we wanted to offer them as good facilities when they visited us, as we got at their place. Then when we were offered to get a part of Brumunddal youthclub, we made the choice of leaving Trehoerningen. We did a lot of voluntary work at Trehoerningen, but we did an even greater job at Brumunddal youth-club. The Youth-club was an abandoned sewage treatment works, and our part had been a biological filter. It was only one room by the size of 6x6 m, square soil, and approximately 10 m high, and had a door on top. The whole room was filled with filterelements made of plastic, 60x60x120 cm pr. Piece. When we started to clean the place, we discovered a 2 cm thick layer of living flies! We now began to understand why the rent was so low, but we got to it with our usual voluntary work-spirit. After a while with cleaning, carpenting, painting, concrete casting etc etc, the clubhouse was ready. Three stories with a compact clubhouse. Workshop in the basement, party and livingroom on the first floor, storageroom and bedroom on the second floor. Finally all facilities was gathered under one roof.

Once the clubhouse got bigger, so did the interest for building bikes. Several really good choppers rolled out from this workshop. Partys on the mid-floor also got bigger, and we were stabile, on about 8-9 member, where few left or joined the club. At this time we travelled even more, nationally as well as internationally, and we established tighter relationship to other clubs. Now we could even offer travelling bikers a place to stay the night, and we also borrowed the rest of the house, arranging bikerpartys with invited clubs.
But after about three years, the agitation against bikers, came to Brumunddal, and the government wanted us out of the clubhouse. Among the members of the club, a wish for an even bigger and better clubhouse started to grow, so when we were offered 50.000,- kr, for our effort, we left the clubhouse, to build a final clubhouse. This new house, we decided, should have every facility, and all rights, and we wanted to own it ourselves. After we moved from the youthclub, it was kaos and a lot of damage there, wich resulted in the government closing the place down for good. Before we moved from the youthclub, we had already bought our own house, and was placed between Brumunddal and Hamar, out in the country, with all neighbours on a safe distance. The house was built around year 1900, but it stood on solid ground, and was fully usable. After putting on a whole new roof, and expanding the addict, we had 100 square meters to our disposal, but that was, of course, too small for us. The solution turned out to be an additional building. After having a lot of long discussions, we agreed on an additional building, by the size of 250 square meters, divided on to stories. Included with the old house, we disposed a total of 600 square meters, and it would be enough space to include everything a deasent clubhouse should contain. The government accepted the house, once we had an architect drawing it. ( the agitation against bikers, had not yet started for real.) the area was regulated as a clubhouse for a motorcycleclub, and the 1th floor satisfied the demands for an bed-sit arrangement, a hobby-workshop, while the 2nd floor was sanctioned as a meeting place for 200 people. The house was then fit out with all the facilities and stuff we needed to live there, arrange parties and to work on our bikes. The financing went well, since we all had steady jobs.

The summer of 1994, we all had set aside for building, and we went to it with great go-ahead spirit, with The selfconfidence, and the knowhow on top, from earlier projects. Exept from the roof, the house was built with Leca-bricks, and because of that, we could build the whole thing ourselves. After a year of intense working, the house was ready, and in fall 1995 we had a inauguration-party. Despite the voluntary eagerness during building, we still hadn`t forgot how to party, so the 550 guests went home with a big smile on their faces. When our final house was finished, one would believe that we were satisfied with the way things had become, but ever since the times we had in our clubhouse at Brumunddal youthclub, it had started to grow a concrete plan about getting to the top, not only with our clubhouse, but also as a club. So, for that reason, when our house was finished, we applied to be accepted into the worlds greatest motorcycleclub, Hells Angels. The day before the St. Hans-party at Chopperfreaks MC, in 1996, we were accepted as hangaroundchapter in Hells Angels MC Norway, and we celebrated for a whole 2 days. Then we rolled up our sleeves once again, starting the work as hangarounds, with the same enthusiasm that had characterized all the projects in our club.

It was turbulent times in the biker-environment, and we had enough to put our minds to. After a while our effort became rewarded, and November 1997, we were promoted to Prospects, and every nostalgic thought that might show up, when we removed our old patches for good, was all forgotten, once we put on our new Red & White! We took the opportunity to have another 2-days party, and by all means, we didn` t want to forget the noble art of partying. Due to the fact that we were just half-way to achieve our goal, we had to keep up the work as Prospects.

May 8th, 1999 on National meeting in Skien, Norway, our biggest dream came true, and we were accepted as members of HELLS ANGELS WORLD!! Even though the snow was falling, it wasn`t able to moderate our following party. We now felt that we had become what we wanted, and had gone the distance so to speak, but the government, with the police in charge, wasn`t as happy. They used every opportunity to make things difficult for us, and when the socalled " Bandidosbombing-case" became known, they saw their chance. After a very one-sided investigation, followed by a very oneway, and one-track minded legal-case, they were allowed to make a big arrest on some of our members. The remaining members, once again, rolled up their sleeves, and worked their way trough this as well. Since nobody gets life in prison in Norway, and what doesn`t kill you, makes you stronger, our club stands stronger than ever before, after this temporary setback!
